A poem by Sean

I wrote a poem. If I had more time, it would flow better and would be more mature.  But I think it does the trick.  Let me know what you think!

Philanthropist or Narcissist

A celebrity appears on a PSA,

Is it an earnest appeal or just a way to say

That they care about the world issues?

A fake smile and a box of tissues

Draw attention to the starving poor

But is this a good thing? I’m still unsure.

Bono, Oprah, Pitt, and Jolie

Give their heart, soul, and money

To help out the less fortunate

And work to make a world aid conglomerate.

In a society focused on reputation,

It’s hard to tell who shows true dedication.

Celebrities strive to associate their faces

With orgs and charities in all the right places.

That will make them look the best in the public’s eye.

Their actions are deceiving and sly.

A celebrity is not an expert on world news,

Just a rich person with biased views.

Don’t believe everything you hear

From a pretty face and a voice so clear.

Personally I find this involvement to be superficial

These people act like a world health official.

They are told what to say to the media,

So do your own research on Wikipedia.

Of course, these countries benefit from the philanthropists,

But it’s sad to see these celebrity self-serving narcissists.

  1. Peggy Lee says:

I like this poem. It’s something that not a lot of bloggers do.

  2. Johnathon Smyth says:

I’ll give it to ya man. You’re a better poet than I am!

  3. JJ McCaine says:

Sorry, but are you dissing Oprah? Are you saying she’s just another celebrity trying to look good to other people?

  4. Rachel Goldstein says:

I don’t think he’s dissing Oprah, JJ. I think he’s saying that some celebrities are all about the spotlight and some actually help out. Although, it’s not so clear, I think you can deduce that from the general idea of the poem.

  5. Philip Halls says:

I’m not so sure you should be using Wikipedia as a credible site to do research. I get the point though. Cool poem.

  6. Serena Gomez says:

Bahaha! Whoever wrote this poem is hilarious! The fact that it was a guy (i’m assuming unless Sean is a girl, then I’m sorry) makes it even more impressive! I personally think that there are tons of self-serving celebrities out there. I will admit, there are some really generous celebrities that genuinely want to help, but for the most part I think celebrities are superficial and narcissistic.

  7. Kay Jacobs says:

This kid does NOT like celebrities.

  8. Miller Jenners says:

I’m obsessed with this!! I am a poet and I love when other people incorporate poetry in unconventional ways, and especially to bring light to all the self righteous, egotistical, so called ‘celebrities.’ You should write more bro!
